Report Transmission Schedule: All reports by 22:00. Plans for Tomorrow: New measures of light Inventory: Not applicable Support Requested: Not applicable Miscellaneous: Commander's ReportDate and time:14 December 2011 Written by: Charlotte Poupon, Crew 108, Commander Today was or last cooking day for the rotation an it was a kind of over-cooking day. Usha delighted with breakfast muffins. Later she baked bread and in the afternoon she helped for a pesto-cheese-nuts bread. Watching the night film, we'll have brownies. Pesto-cheese-nuts bread will be documented in a specific report. EVA 20 ReportDate and time:14 December 2011 Written by: Michael LeClair Crew Members: Michael LeClair (Geologist), Usha Lingappa (Astrobiologist) Time: 09:22 – 12:37 - Depressurization: 09:22 – 09:27 - Only stop at eastern terminus of Sagan Street at 11:49 - Repressurization: 12:32 – 12:37 Site Location: Factory Bench Transit Mode: ATV Objective: Round-robin. Navigate to Factory Bench via Brahe and Copernicus Highway in low-visibility and wet and muddy conditions. Results: Visibility was as low as 300 ft, but did improve on return voyage. Wet exposed clay sediments -especially on the descent down from Radio Ridge on Sagan Street- proved challenging on ATVs. Lessons Learned: Wet snow on exposed clay sediments poses real risk of slipping to ATV ops. Vegetation and a years’ worth of erosion can make even established, often-travelled trails difficult to locate for first rotation crews. EVA 21 ReportDate and time:14 December 2011 Written by: Michael LeClair Crew Members: Michael LeClair (Geologist), Mike Lotto (Engineer), Ashley Dale (Engineer) Time: 13:10 – 14:47 - Depressurization: 13:10 – 13:15 - Farthest point at Kap Austro Mars - Repressurization: 14:42 – 14:47 Site Location: Factory Bench Transit Mode: ATV Objective: Further exploration and photography of Factory Bench Results: Successful navigation and photography. Slope scaled on foot to cliff face. Crew scaled northern ridgeline, referred to as Kap Austro Mars by previous crew, of Factory Bench at 14:22. Lessons Learned: Deepening of stream beds by annual erosion sufficient to impede ATV travel in close proximity to base of rectilinear slope in wet and muddy conditions. Journalist ReportDate and time:December 14 2011,18:25 Written by: Ashley Dale, Crew 108, Engineer Waking up to a thick and milky haze of fog shrouding the hills around us was really quite other-worldly. Apple and cinnamon muffins for breakfast was served up by little Ms. amazing Usha. She also baked bread, brownies and cooked an awesome Indian Buffet in the evening. Mmm. We had two EVAs out to Factory Bridge, one of which involved an ascent. En-route, mist rose from the flats around us licking the epic walls of the canyon like a ghostly ocean of fire. We got some great shots. We went out star gazing and to watch the Geminids pour in under the backbone of the Milky Way - an inspiring and humbling experience for all of us.
