Commander's Check-In Report

Date and time: 7 January 2012, 18:15

Written by: April Andreas, Crew 110B, Commander

Crew Physical Status: In good spirits

Time Departed/Returned from EVA: No real EVA; we were out of sim and just practiced riding the ATVs

Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: No mission. We spent the day cleaning the Hab, breaking down boxes, throwing away packing materials. We used some of the isopropyl alcohol to disinfect the surfaces, swept the large
amount of dirt, and cleaned off the tables downstairs so we could begin to use them for our lab work. We also spent a lot of time cleaning dishtowels that we found in various states of ickiness around the Hab.

EVA Data/Interpretations: n/a

Engineering/Hab Maintenance:

Vernon worked on tightening the bolts in the water tank above the commander's room, which was leaking.

There's something wrong with the electrical outlet in the area where you go out the engineering door. That outlet is dead.

We tried replacing the GFI button, but that didn't fix it.

Report Transmission Schedule: We'll get everything in soon.

Plans for Tomorrow:

Tomorrow, we're doing an in-sim orientation. We'll practice getting the suits on, and going for a general EVA. There won't be specific goals on these EVAs - we want to be able to focus  on getting comfortable functioning in our space suits.

Inventory:
The next crew may be low on trash bags. It was suggested that better "food fasteners" be considered to keep food packages secure. (Duct tape isn't necessarily ideal.)

Support Requested:
The water is at less than half, so in the next few days we will likely need more water. We used a fair bit of water today to clean up the living areas of the Hab, which were quite dusty.
